Band 6
Chief Orthodontic Technician

We're hiring!

At St George’s Hospital, we’re looking for an Orthodontic Technician to join our small team of six — taking ownership of the orthodontic service and how it runs day to day.

What you'll be doing

What you'll be doing

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Designing and manufacturing a wide range of orthodontic appliances, including removable, fixed and functional devices, as well as sleep apnoea appliances.

  • Producing study models and working with digital workflows, including CAD design and 3D printing.

  • Carrying out PAR scoring and supporting clinical case planning.

  • Managing your own workload, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard within agreed turnaround times (typically 2–3 weeks).

  • Liaising with clinicians to ensure prescriptions are accurate and outcomes meet patient needs.

  • Advising on appliance design in more complex cases alongside the clinical team

  • Maintaining accurate records of all work via the laboratory database.

  • Managing stock levels and ordering materials as required.

  • Supporting service continuity, including coordinating outsourced work during periods of high demand.

  • Contributing to team meetings, audits and service improvement initiatives

Why join our team?

There are plenty of Orthodonic roles out there — so why this one?

For us, it comes down to the work, the team, and the way we do things. The role itself is varied (no two cases are the same), you’ll have real ownership over your work, and you won’t just feel like another pair of hands in the lab.

We’re also in the middle of bringing more digital into how we work, so there’s a genuine opportunity to get involved and help shape what that looks like.

We’re going digital

We’re starting to bring more digital ways of working into the lab — things like intraoral scanning on the clinical side, plus 3D printing and digital workflows. You’ll have your own workstation in a big, bright lab, with plenty of space to get stuck into your work.

Creativity and variety every day

Every job is different — no two cases are the same. You might be asked to make a retainer or a twin block multiple times, but each one will vary depending on the patient and what’s needed. Our clinicians will sometimes ask for something a bit more bespoke too, so there’s plenty of opportunity to think outside the box.

We’re a small friendly bunch

With lots of experience between us and we really enjoy sharing what we know, so if there’s anything you’re curious about or want to learn, just ask! While we do have deadlines, the lab is a great place with the radio always going and the kettle ready for a cuppa tea.

Ready to join our Maxillofacial team?

Every appliance tells a slightly different story.
Some are straightforward. Some… less so.

That’s why we’re looking for our next Chief Orthodontic Technician.

Could it be you?
